LYNCHBURG BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION PAPERS
Lynchburg, Virginia, celebrated its 200th anniversary as a town in 1986. The
Bicentennial Commission organized various events to mark the occasion. The collection
includes financial records, newspapers, slides for a slide/tape program, a poster
announcing the birthday celebration, copies of The Herald, the Commission's newsletter,
minutes of meetings, souvenirs and programs for events, and miscellaneous papers.

The collection contains title examinations and supporting documents for the Lynch and
Tunstall properties at Ninth and Main Streets in Lynchburg, Virginia, prior to a sale to
Fidelity National Bank in 1968. The properties were originally part of a land grant in
1750 from King George II to Charles Lynch, Sr., of Albemarle County, Virginia, later
becoming part of the original town of Lynchburg in 1786. Titles are traced through the
