The collection contains title examinations and supporting documents for the Lynch and
Tunstall properties at Ninth and Main Streets in Lynchburg, Virginia, prior to a sale to
Fidelity National Bank in 1968. The properties were originally part of a land grant in
1750 from King George II to Charles Lynch, Sr., of Albemarle County, Virginia, later
becoming part of the original town of Lynchburg in 1786. Titles are traced through the
families of Lynch, Christian, Dearing, Fauntleroy, Tunstall and Ward.

DEED AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT – CARPENTER TO HUNT
The collection consists of the deed of Ira Carpenter and Charlotte Harriet
Carpenter, his wife, to John T. Hunt, for a lot in Lynchburg, VA. Martin W. Davenport
and Pleasant Labby, Justices of the Peace for Lynchburg, Va., examined Charlotte Harriet
Carpenter, wife of Ira Carpenter, as to a deed to John T. Hunt, which she acknowledged
on Sept. 3, 1836. The deed was recorded in Lynchburg Deed Book M, p. 394 on Oct. 8,
1836.

CLARK FAMILY DEEDS, 1881–c.1920
Included is the deed for the William T. & Lucy YANCEY property at the corner
of Grace & Pearl Streets, Lynchburg, VA, which was sold in 1881 to Abram I. CLARK.
There is also a plat map of the property, and receipts for money received by Marianne &
Jno. D. CLARK, both children of Abram I. CLARK, as is indicated in the receipts. There
is also a list of plantings for the border of 708 Pearl St., home of Mrs. F. S.
