COMMERCIAL BANK OF LYNCHBURG STOCK CERTIFICATES
The collection consists of three stock certificates from The Commercial Bank of
Lynchburg, Va. One certificate totaling 20 shares issued Apr. 3, 1882 to John Bell Winfree,
Lynchburg, Va.; one certificate of 3 shares issued Feb. 14, 1893 to Bella Fairfax Winfree,
guardian, wife of John Bell Winfree, Jr.; and one certificate of 3 shares issued Dec. 6, 1894 to
John B. Winfree (perhaps John Bell Winfree, Jr.).

COMMERCIAL BANK OF LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA
The Commercial Bank of Lynchburg was incorporated in Lynchburg, Virginia, on 28
February 1882 with a capital stock of $100,000. The principal officers were John Warwick
Daniel, president, James F. Kinnier, cashier, and J. Saunders O’Neal, assistant cashier. The bank
was formerly the Savings Bank of Lynchburg. In 1887, the name of the bank was changed to
Commercial National Bank and continued until 1896. The owners of the shares in this collection
were John Bell Winfree, John Bell Winfree, Jr., and Bella Fairfax Winfree.
