The collection includes the constitution and bylaws of the organization, brochures
describing the organization, and a newspaper article about the Lynchburg, Virginia,
chapter of this society. Also included is a photocopy of a membership certificate.

SOCIETY OF VIRGINIANS. CARTER GLASS COLONY.
The Carter Glass Colony, Society of Virginians, was organized on 26 November 1935.
Its membership was comprised of native-born Virginians, descendants of at least two
generations of Virginians, or sons of the members of the Society of Virginians. "The
objects of The Society [were] social, educational, cultural and patriotic," and plans for the
society included costume balls, banquets, essay contests, meetings and conventions.
Departments of history and genealogy were also planned. The Society and the Colony
were organized in Lynchburg, Virginia.
