CHARLES KECK PAPERS 1905-1954
The collection on CD-ROM contains three folders. The number for each folder
refers to the reel number of microfilm as labeled by Smithsonian Institution. Reel 441:
16 photographs, including 11 of Keck’s work from about 1905 in Rome while at the
American Academy, 2 of his studio in Rome, and 3 group photographs of Keck, Adolph
Weinman, Milton Horn, and others. – Reel D105: Scrapbooks containing clippings,
speeches, photographs, and some correspondence; photographs of works of art;
biographical information and lists of works. – Reel 2068: Record book with price lists of
his work; notebook containing records of his work; speeches; letters received; clippings;
and awards.
The CD-ROM created by M. Ernest Marshall from microfilm of Charles Keck
papers at the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution (originally filmed 19651973).
CHARLES KECK (1875-1951)
Charles Keck was born 9 September 1875 in Hessen, Germany, the son of
Heinrich Keck and Elizabeth Kammerer. He worked as a sculptor and was a
conservative American artist. He trained at the Art Students League and the National
Academy of Design. He was studio assistant of Saint-Gaudens 1893-1898. He was a
member of the National Sculpture Society.
Charles Keck died 23 April 1951 in New York City. He was buried in Fishkill
Rural Cemetery, Dutchess County, New York.
