MARY MILLER WOOD HOLT ALBUM
The collection includes approximately 195 photoprints (most of everyday life at
Farmington), ten photographic postcards, miscellaneous envelopes, letters and five
photographs of Monticello. Most of the individuals in the photographs are not identified.
Also included is the book The Castle of Dreams, by Mary Miller Holt, and miscellaneous
notes prepared by staff of Jones Memorial Library on Farmington, including a chain of
title for the property, records of the National Register of Historic Places, "Farmington,"
and a genealogical chart of the Wood/Woods family of Farmington.

FARMINGTON (ALBEMARLE COUNTY ESTATE)
Farmington, located west of the University of Virginia, was patented in 1744 and
first built upon prior to 1780 by Francis Jerdone. Jerdone sold the property in 1785 to
George Divers of Philadelphia, who, in 1803, enlarged the house to its present form.
Plans for Farmington’s expansion were provided by Thomas Jefferson. The chain of title
indicates that the Wood family, namely Warner Wood, came into possession of the
property in 1877. At his death, the property was left to Warner’s widow, Maggie L.
Wood, mother of Mary Miller Wood Holt. In 1927 the Farmington estate was purchased
by a group of subscribers to form the Farmington Country Club.
