HUGH WYTHE DAVIS (1840-1914)
Hugh Wythe DAVIS, son of John F. DAVIS and Delight THOMAS, was born 20
September 1840 in Richmond, Virginia. He was educated at private schools in
Richmond and in Chesterfield County and completed his course of classical studies at
Richmond College in 1858. He was graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in
1861 and was assistant surgeon in the hospitals of Richmond during the Civil War.
Dr. DAVIS married 15 February 1865, in Richmond, Mary Elizabeth APPERSON of
New Kent County.
Dr. Hugh Wythe DAVIS was a member of the Virginia State Medical Society, a
trustee of Richmond College, and a trustee for the Baptist Home for Aged Women in
Richmond. He retired from medical practice on 20 December 1913 and died 29 June
1914 in Richmond.
