GEORGE WASHINGTON MAY BUSINESS RECORDS, 1870-1891
The collection includes business records, 1870-1891 of George Washington May (18261910) of Trevilians, Louisa County, Virginia, consisting of accounts, envelopes, invoices,
receipts, letters, post cards and other papers detailing George W. May and Company business
dealings with various companies in Virginia and Maryland.

GEORGE WASHINGTON MAY (1826-1910)
George Washington May, son of John Spearman May (ca. 1788-1863) and Margaret
Poindexter (d. 1849), was born ca. 1826. During the Civil War, he served in Company C, 56 th
Regiment, Virginia Infantry. After the Civil War, May operated a general store in Trevilians,
Louisa County, Virginia. At one point he was partner with his younger brother, Isaac Newton
May (1841-1913) who also served in Company C, 56th Regiment, Virginia Infantry. Isaac N.
May was graduated from the University of Virginia in 1860 and became a minister. Later he was
a professor at Baylor University, Waco, Texas.
