RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE LYNCHBURG TOBACCO ASSOCIATION
(1879. 1883)
The Lynchburg Tobacco Association was incorporated in 1879 “for the purpose of
encouraging, promoting, organizing, Controlling and regulating the tobacco trade of the City of
Lynchburg.” Officers in 1883 were F.T. Lee, President, J. Holmes Smith, Vice-president and
James Franklin, Jr., Secretary and Treasurer. In addition to its officers and committees, the
Association included commission merchants, warehouse inspectors, tobacco manufacturers, leaf
dealers, and smoking tobacco manufacturers.
