ELEANOR GRACE CARWILE GUTHRIE (1922-2002)
Eleanor Grace Carwile was born 29 September 1922 in Campbell County, Virginia, the
daughter of Walter Ray Carwile and Mary Lucile Smith. She attended business school in
Lynchburg, Virginia and was employed in the Treasurer’s office in the county seat of Rustburg.
She married James Edward Guthrie of Clarkton, Virginia, in 1950, and they were the parents of
three children. An avid genealogist, she was a member of the Red Hill Chapter, National Society
of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Campbell County Historical Society. A
member of Childrey Baptist Church, in Nathalie, Virginia, she died 4 January 2002 and was
buried in the church cemetery.
