WILLIAM ANDERSON BALLOWE (1837-1907) MISCELLANEOUS PAPERS
The collection includes printed summons, issued by the clerk of court or magistrate to
William A. Ballowe, constable, in Amherst County, Virginia. Also included are notes and
accounts of debtors for payment of delinquent accounts and other miscellaneous court documents.

WILLIAM ANDERSON BALLOWE (1837-around 1907)
William Anderson Ballowe, son of Thomas Leonard Ballowe and Anne Anderson, was
born 10 July 1837 in Nelson County, Virginia. He enlisted in Co. C, 34th Virginia Infantry during
the Civil War. He married 14 December 1864 in Amherst County, Emma Fannie Shelton, the
daughter of John Poindexter Shelton and Sarah H.R. Bell. Ballowe was a farmer, a constable for
the Elon district of Amherst, and a Justice of the Peace for Amherst County.
According to the Bedford Bulletin of 17 January 1907, one W.A. Ballowe, of Amherst
County, died in Amherst County “recently.”
