EVELYN CARY WILLIAMS COLLECTION
The collection includes four booklets of poetry by John Augustus K. Eveningstar. Each
booklet is inscribed by the author : “With affectionate regards to Miss Evelyn Cary Williams,
from the author – John Augustus K. Eveningstar, Washington, D.C, May 31, 1945. Box 1172
Washington, D.C.”
The four booklets, published in 1935 and 1937 were: Grains of time; Rule Americana;
Ut infra; and Brides of Yum-chac.
EVELYN CARY WILLIAMS (1880-1973)
Evelyn Cary Williams was born 18 May 1880 in Lynchburg, Virginia, the daughter of
James Peter Williams and Anna Kinckle. An accomplished musician, she was a graduate of
Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Lynchburg, in 1902. She graduated from Oxford Seminary
in North Carolina in 1906. She was an instructor in music theory and piano, 1906-1910, and
instructor of theory, 1910-, at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. She taught music at both
Randolph-Macon and at Sweet Briar College, as well as conducted private classes in piano.
Evelyn Cary Williams died 16 January 1973, in Lynchburg and was buried in Spring Hill
Cemetery.
