VIRGINIA SCHOOL OF THE ARTS
The Virginia School of the Arts was founded in 1985 to “foster and encourage
students of high school age or younger” in dance, drama, music, or the visual arts. The
private boarding school also provided a stimulating atmosphere through daily contact
with similarly-gifted students. Academic instruction was provided through a local high
school. Due to economic conditions and declining enrollment, the School closed in May
2011.
