THOMAS EDWARD MARSHALL III (1915–2014)
Thomas Edward MARSHALL III, son of Thomas Edward MARSHALL, Jr., and
Margaret Virginia QUINN, was born 7 September 1915 in Nelson County, Virginia. He
was educated at the Miller School in Albemarle County, graduating in 1934. Following
his graduation, he worked as a chemical operator for Southern Mineral Products
Corporation in Piney River, Nelson County.
Thomas E. MARSHALL continued his education at the Nashville Automobile
College, Nashville, Tennessee, and at the Columbia Technical Institute and Business
School in Washington, DC. He also attended Bliss Electrical School, Takoma Park,
Maryland. Following graduation in 1941, he worked for the U.S. Naval Gun Factory,
Washington, DC, until he transferred to the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory,
Washington, DC, in 1946. He retired from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in 1972.
Thomas E. MARSHALL III married 13 February 1944, in Washington, DC, Carroll
Wade PUGH, of Charlotte County, Virginia.
Following his retirement, Tom began recording the family information he had been
collecting for a number of years. He designed a "Living Family Chart" to be used in
recording the family data and source citations. He has produced a number of collections
of family records using his chart system.
In 1995, Thomas E. MARSHALL III and his wife, Carroll, moved to a retirement
center in Austell, Georgia.
