MRS. BEN CLEMENT HOUSEHOLD RECEIPTS BOOK
This small volume of handwritten household receipts includes: instructions for
washing clothes; recipes for soap, various dyes, ink, blacking, tomato catsup, gingerbread
pudding, pickles, blackberry wine, and sealing wax; remedies for various diseases; and
instructions for knitting a soldiers' cap. The volume also includes an inventory of
dishes. It appears the volume was written during the period 1862-1868.
MRS. BEN CLEMENT
The identity of Mrs. Ben CLEMENT is unknown at present, but she appears to be
Rachel CLEMENT, wife of Benjamin CLEMENT, of Campbell County, Virginia.
Rachel CLEMENT was born ca. 1810 and was still alive at the time of her sister's (sisterin-law?) death on 17 March 1887.
