W.C. (1912-1988) & DELPHIA K. FLANIK PAPERS
The collection includes three slide/tape shows, including written narrative, on the
following topics:
(1) flood damage in Nelson County, VA, from Hurricane Camille rains
(1969).
(2) construction of the Lynchburg airport terminal building (1959-1960).
(3) construction of the tower at the Lynchburg airport (1961-1963).
Flanik was airport facility chief during the construction projects depicted. His wife,
Delphia K. Flanik, assisted with these shows.
WILLIAM CHARLES FLANIK (1912-1988)
William Charles Flanik was born on 21 December 1912, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the
son of George and Mary Clepec Flanik, and was married to Delphia Kay Dawson.
Mr. Flanik had served with the Federal Aviation Administration, retiring from the
Lynchburg Municipal Airport, where he served as control tower chief for 25 years.
He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps.
Bill Flanik died on 26 January 1988, in Lynchburg, VA, and was buried in Fort Hill
Memorial Park.
