ARTHUR HUGH FRAZIER LETTER TO CARTER GLASS, 1918
Arthur Hugh Frazier, of the United States Embassy in Paris, writes to Carter Glass at the
Hotel Meurice concerning a visit to the British front. Included with the letter are carbon copies
of communications with Major R.V.C. Bodley, Assistant Military Attaché of the British
Embassy, a telegram discussing a delay and a letter from the Earl of Derby suggesting an
alternative date. In October 1918, Carter Glass, with Congressmen Byrnes and Whaley, planned
a visit to the British front in France. The visit was delayed under the restriction of a 10-14 day
notice. An alternative date of Nov. 2 was suggested by Lord Derby “instead of asking for the
usual 10 days’ notice.”
ARTHUR HUTH FRAZIER, 1868-1963
Arthur Hugh Frazier was born Aug. 12, 1868, in Heidelberg, Germany. He was a
graduate of Lehigh University and studied at University of Halle, the Royal College of
Viticulture, and Fresimus Chemical Laboratory. He was appointed Second Secretary at U.S.
Embassy, Paris, Feb. 11, 1914 and became Embassy Counselor in June, 1918. He was
designated to attend supreme war council as diplomatic representative of U.S. in 1918. He
served in the Diplomatic Service. Frazier later settled in Westport, Connecticut, where he died in
1963.
