LYNCHBURG JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB
The Lynchburg Junior Woman's Club was organized 23 March 1947, sponsored by
the Woman's Club of Lynchburg, Virginia, "to stimulate interest through its members in
the educational, civic and cultural aspects of the community." The first major project
conducted by the Club was the Lynchburg Speech and Hearing Center, begun in 1953
and made a part of the city school system in 1958. The Club has also participated in a
teacher aide program and a remedial reading clinic and testing laboratory for the school
system. Other projects have included the foster home survey, the Grove Playground
project, and a children's zoo at Miller Park.
