SCRAPBOOKS OF LYNCHBURG DAR CHAPTERS
The collection includes two scrapbooks of the Lynchburg, Virginia, DAR Chapters,
kept by Ida Lynham McWANE from 1952 until 1959. Also included are some personal
papers of Mrs. McWANE, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous pamphlets, articles,
and photographs. [A number of the newspaper clippings and pamphlets were added to
the collection by other individuals.]

IDA LYNHAM McWANE (1889-1964)

Ida LYNHAM, daughter of William Clifford LYNHAM and Minnie SNYDER, was
born 16 October 1889, in Richmond, Virginia. She was educated in the schools of
Richmond. She married 24 September 1913 Frederick William McWANE, son of Henry
Edward McWANE and Blanche ROBERTS, of Lynchburg, Virginia. They moved to
Anniston, Alabama, where McWANE was supervisor of the construction of a cast iron
pipe plant.
The McWANE family returned to Lynchburg in 1915 when Fred W. McWANE was
made general manager of the Lynchburg Foundry Company. Ida (LYNHAM) McWANE
was active in the civic and cultural affairs of Lynchburg, serving as president of the Fort
Hill Woman's Club, president of the Old Fort Garden Club, board member for the Young
Women's Christian Association, and board member of the Florence Crittenton Home.
She was also a member of the Woman's Club and the Old Dominion Chapter of the
United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was regent of the Lynchburg Chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a founding member of the Lynchburg
Chapter of the Children of the American Revolution.
Ida (LYNHAM) McWANE died 23 February 1964, and was buried in the Spring Hill
Cemetery.
