THE ELIZABETH WHITE HAMNER (1855-1921) PAPERS
The collection includes the papers of Mrs. Elizabeth White HAMNER relating to her
membership in the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution,
Lynchburg, Virginia. Included are talks delivered by Mrs. HAMNER, minutes of the
Seventh Annual Meeting of the Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution kept by
Mrs. HAMNER, and a history of the Blue Ridge Chapter written by Mrs. HAMNER.
Also included is a certificate from Governor STUART of Virginia appointing Mrs.
HAMNER as a delegate to the Star-Spangled Banner Centennial Celebration, held in
Baltimore, Maryland, in 1914.

ELIZABETH WHITE HAMNER (1855-1921)
Elizabeth ("Bettie C.") WHITE, daughter of Samuel Garland WHITE and Sarah
COLE, was born 28 December 1855 in Albemarle County, Virginia. ["Elizabeth White

At Ivy Depot, Albemarle County, Virginia, Elizabeth WHITE married 26 September
1877 Edward Chambers HAMNER. ["Marriage of E. C. Hamner and Bettie C. White," loc.cit.;
"Elizabeth White Hamner, No. 1864," loc.cit.]

In 1893, Elizabeth White HAMNER was appointed as organizing regent to form a
chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Lynchburg. The Blue Ridge
Chapter was chartered on 2 October 1895. ["History of the Blue Ridge Chapter, National Society

Elizabeth White HAMNER died 19 June 1921 at her home in Lynchburg, Virginia.
