The collection includes notes on the Robertson and allied families of Virginia. Of
particular interest is the family of James Burroughs and Elizabeth Robertson, owners of the
slave, Booker T. Washington.

ELLA VERNA ROBERTSON (1896-1981)
Ella Verna Robertson, daughter of Stanhope Robertson and Hattie Susie Moulton, was
born 22 November 1896 in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was trained as a nurse at Jefferson
Hospital, Roanoke, Virginia, and worked as a private duty nurse for ten years. She studied
secretarial work at National Business College in Roanoke and was employed by Eubank &
Cardwell, Inc., architects and engineers of Roanoke. Miss Robertson died April 15, 1981, at
Moneta, Virginia.
