MARITIME “M” AWARD OF MERIT
The collection includes a program of presentations of the maritime “M” award to
Lynchburg Foundry and its workers in Lynchburg and Radford, Va. In 1943, Lynchburg
Foundry Company was awarded the maritime “M” by the United States Maritime Commission
Board of Awards, “in recognition of outstanding production achievement.” The program of
awards was presented in Lynchburg, Va. on July 9, 1943, and in Radford, Va. on July 10, 1943.
The program also lists the employees in each plant receiving individual labor merit awards, as
well as those employees serving in the armed forces. Also in the collection is the company news
magazine, The Iron Worker, detailing the speeches and presentations of awards.
