MARY BURKS DEAN (1922-2011)
Mary Wheat Burks was born in Bedford County, Virginia, June 6, 1922, the daughter of
Frank Wellington Burks and Sallie Wheat. She worked at Rubatex Corporation as purchasing
agent for over 35 years. . An avid golfer, she also enjoyed family genealogical research.
On March 17, 1945, Mary Burks married Ward Ashby Dean, Sr., son of James Franklin
Dean and Pinkie Creasy. Mary was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in
Bedford and a resident of the Elks National Home. She died on April 8, 2011, in Lynchburg and
was buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Bedford, Virginia.
