CRANSTON WILLIAMS, JR., 1926Cranston Williams, Jr., son of Cranston Gullatt Williams and Caroline Elizabeth Hutter,
was born 12 August 1926 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman
during World War II (1944-1946) and was graduated from the University of Virginia in 1950.
He received a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of
Pennsylvania in 1952. He married 1 October 1960 Marilyn Virginia Johnson in Vinton,
Virginia.
Mr. Williams was the business manager and treasurer of the Times-World Corporation in
Roanoke, Virginia, publisher of the Roanoke Times. An avid amateur genealogist, he was a
member of numerous hereditary societies, including First Families of Virginia, the Jamestowne
Society, the Virginia Huguenot Society and Sons of the American Revolution.
