The collection consists of a land grant for 367 acres in Hardy County, Virginia (now
West Virginia), issued to Henry NICHOLAS by Wilson Cary NICHOLAS, Governor of
Virginia, dated 22 May 1815.

HENRY NICHOLAS (fl.1812-1816)
The land grant of 1815 for 367 acres in Hardy County, Virginia, is one of four tracts
granted to one Henry NICHOLAS between 1812 and 1816. [Sims Index to Land Grants in
West Virginia (Charleston: State Auditor's Office, 1952), p. 259.]

In 1820, the household of Henrey [sic] NICHOLAS of Hardy County included:

1 female 16-26 years

1 female over 45 years
[1810 Census, Hardy County, VA, National Archives and Records Service, M-33, Roll 137, p. 93A. As
head of household, Henrey Nicholas would most probably be the male 26-45 years, and would have been
born ca. 1775-1794. Nothing further is known at present.]
