JAMES EDWARD BOWLER (1877-1963) SCRAPBOOK
The scrapbook includes newspaper clippings (1938-1954), mostly from Lynchburg (Va.)
newspapers. Many of the clippings concern African American citizens. There is a partial index
included. “This scrap book was compiled by James E. Bowler of 1101 Hollins Street, a Negro
employee of Craddock-Terry Jobbing House, who died about 1960 or 1961.”
JAMES EDWARD BOWLER (1877-1963)
James Edward Bowler was born 4 November 1877 in Lynchburg, Virginia. He worked as
a janitor and porter for the Craddock-Terry Jobbing House and resided at 1101 Hollins Street.
Bowler died 16 December 1963 at the Lynchburg Nursing Home and was buried in the Old City
Cemetery, Lynchburg.
