GARLAND HILL NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION, INC.
Garland Hill Neighborhood Association, Inc., was organized in 1979 with the purpose of
preserving, rehabilitating and maintaining Garland Hill Historic District as an historic and
significant area in the City of Lynchburg, Va. The District is a small residential neighborhood
incorporating the summit of one of the numerous hills surrounding downtown Lynchburg. The
neighborhood was home to many of Lynchburg's oldest and most distinguished families.
Buildings in the District represent a variety of architectural styles from the early 19th century
through the early 20th century. The District was designated a Virginia Historic Landmark in
1972 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places the same year. The District was
designated a Lynchburg Historic District in 1978. Membership in the Association is open to all
persons who reside or own property in the Garland Hill conservation district and to those persons
who do not reside or own property in the District who have demonstrated an interest in furthering
the purposes of the Association.
