BOWMAN THEATER HOLIDAY PERFORMANCE (1899)
On 10 April 1899, a performance of the Sullivan comic opera, A Trial by Jury, was
presented by neighbors and friends of the Bowman family of Diamond Hill in Lynchburg, Va.,
as an entertainment. This opera was supposedly done by John L. and Gilbert Sullivan. The
actual opera was by Gilbert and Sullivan. John L. Sullivan was a renowned boxer at the time.
The names listed in the program have been altered for humorous effect.
