McWANE CAST-IRON PIPE PATENT PROPOSAL (1925)
The proposal is a typescript copy of an article describing a method for improving
procedures for cast-iron pipe manufacture, with a proposal for securing a patent for the procedure
in return for a share in the proceeds from the patent.

CHARLES WILLIAM McWANE (1876-1936)
Charles William McWane, son of Charles P. and Ella Dudley McWane, was born 16 May
1867, in Wytheville, Virginia. He was educated at Milligan College in Tennessee. As a youth, he
was associated with father in the foundry business in Wytheville. In 1897, he moved, with his
family, to Lynchburg, where he became official in Lynchburg Foundry Company, founded by
brother, Henry E. McWane.
Charles was recognized for several patents on plows and improvements. He married Cora
Wilkinson, daughter of Samuel J. Wilkinson and Maria Haller, 14 May 1896 in Wytheville.
Charles William McWane died 6 February 1936 in Lynchburg and was buried in Spring
Hill Cemetery.
