JOHN C. NOELL (1789-1862) PAPERS
The papers (1825-1866, 1883) include assorted receipts from court clerks of
Lynchburg, Amherst, Bedford, Botetourt, Campbell, Roanoke, & Pittsylvania Counties,
VA, for transactions involving NOELL; papers relating to the settlement of NOELL's
estate, particularly lists of "Negroes and Lands" belonging to various members of the
NOELL family. The slaves are listed by name (no last name) and includes their
estimated values; one list also gives ages. The papers also include some accounts and a
letter from J. T. NOELL, Jr. (1883).
JOHN C. NOELL (1789-1862)
John C. NOELL, son of Thomas NOELL, was born February 1789 in Bedford
County, Virginia. He married (1) 7 December 1810 (bond) Polly MILLNER, daughter of
Williamson MILLNER and Sally NIEL. He married (2) 11 November 1815 (bond)
Nancy WITT, daughter of Dennett Abny WITT and Conney OGLESBY. [Jennie Noel

There is indication in the NOELL papers that John C. NOELL may have operated a
store ca. 1849 (perhaps Bedford County, Virginia). B. GARDINER to Samuel
GARLAND, 1 August 1849, order to pay John C. NOELL for merchandise "rec'd from
