Georgia Chatham County,
Know all men by these presents that I, Martha Davis Administratrix of the Estate and Effects of Simon F. Davis late of Chatham County deceased, in pursuance and by virtue of an order of the Honorable Court of Ordinary of Chatham County, passed at the November Term 1847, having given due and legal notice, of the time and place of sale, did, on Tuesday the fourth day of January 1848, during the legal hours of sale, in front of the Court House in the city of Savannah, by Philbrick Merriam and Bell public auctioneers, expose at public outcry, a certain family of Slaves (four in number) viz Rose aged about thirty eight years and her three children viz George aged about ten years, Henry aged about seven years and Billy aged about four years, belonging to said estate, when Thomas F. Potter being the highest and best bidder, the said slaves Rose, George, Henry and Billy were knocked off to him at the price of two hundred and fifty dollars each, being One thousand dollars for the family; therefore in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars to me in hand paid, at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, by Thomas F. Potter, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have bargained, sold, and by these presents, do bargain sell and deliver, unto the said Thomas F. Potter the above described four slaves Rose, George, Henry and Billy together with all the future increase and issue of the female, Rose; to have and to hold the said four slaves, Rose, George, Henry and Billy and the future increase and issue of Rose, unto the said Thomas F. Potter, his executors, administrators and assigns to his and their only proper use and behoof forever. And I the said Martha Davis Administratrix aforesaid, my Heirs and Executors and Administrators, the said bargained premises, unto the said Thomas F. Potter, his Executors Administrators and Assigns, from and against all persons shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal. Dated at Savannah the fourth day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty eight
