In the letter Burke seeks information about the Jones library, erroneously believing the library to be integrated. Burke is also seeking advice on how to desegregate the Alexandria Library.

On 05 October 1950, Dickerson replied to Burke stating that the Jones was not integrated and closed her reply with "Good luck to you."
