LAW LECTURE NOTES AND SCRAPBOOK
Unknown student's notes on law lectures of Professor John Barbee MINOR at the
University of Virginia. Later, newspaper clippings about Confederate veterans were
pasted on several pages.
JOHN BARBEE MINOR (1813-1895)
John Barbee MINOR, son of Lancelot MINOR and Mary O. TOMPKINS, was born 2
June 1813 in Louisa County, Virginia. He was admitted to the Albemarle (County) bar in
1830. [John B. Minor, The Minor Family of Virginia (Lynchburg, VA: J. P. Bell, 1923), pp. 22, 52.] He
graduated from the University of Virginia in 1834 and practiced law in Botetourt County
for several years. He later joined his brother, Lucian, in a law practice in Charlottesville,
Virginia. In 1845, he became a professor of law at the University, and remained as
professor until his death on 29 July 1895. [Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Vol. 3
