DRY RUN SCHOOL PETITION AND REPONSE
The collection includes a letter of petition, dated around 1912, to the trustees of the
Blacksburg, Virginia, school district requesting the reopening of the Dry Run school. Two years
earlier, the school had been closed and students moved to another school. The students are having
difficulty traveling to the new school in the winter. In response, J.H. Stephens, superintendent of
schools, addressed a response, dated Sept. 24, 1912, to J. L. Robinson, one of the petitioners,
stating the need for repairs and the difficulty in finding a teacher for the school.
