E.C. CHAFFIN MISCELLANEOUS RECORDS (1900-1949)
The collection includes receipts for purchases, tobacco sales, and tax payments. Tobacco
sales receipts are from Martin’s Warehouse, Booker’s Independent Warehouse and Farmers
Warehouse in Lynchburg, Va.

ELISHA CRAWFORD CHAFFIN (1876-1958)
Elisha Crawford Chaffin was born 16 September 1876 in Bedford County,
Virginia, the son of Thomas Jefferson Chaffin and Elvie E. Mitchell. A tobacco farmer by trade,
Chaffin brought tobacco to warehouses in Lynchburg for sale. By 1932, he had a total of 182 acres
of farmland in Bedford County.
E.C. Chaffin married 4 May 1904, in Bedford County, Estelle Overstreet, the daughter of
William Burrell Overstreet and Annie Permelia Gibbs. He died 6 January 1958 in Bedford County
and was buried in the Quaker Baptist Church cemetery at Chestnut Fork, Bedford County.
